FAMILY CAMP - 10th - 12th September at Taw Bottom

We will be having a family camp at Taw Bottom (Near South Tawton) again this year. Taw Bottom is a site owned by the Guides which is purpose built for camping and includes kitchen, showers and toilets, indoor areas, undercover eating areas, a campfire, woods and a stream. Beavers and Cubs can only camp as part of a family and parents will be responsible for their children at all times, although the Scout Leaders will be arranging optional activities for everyone to join in with – competitions, craft activities, treasure hunts, games etc.

Last year 26 families came and it was a great weekend. We will camp from Friday evening until Sunday lunchtime although as with last year, we hope to be able to set up the tents on Thursday evening if people wish. Food will be provided and we expect to be able to again keep the cost down to £10 per person thanks to a generous donation from a parent (under 2’s will be free).

Can you please pay any outstanding amounts for the family camp as soon as possible.

The site will be open from 5pm – 8pm Thursday 9th September to set up tents and from 4pm on Friday 10th. The camp will finish at 12pm Sunday 12th. Please note that the site is locked when not in use so on Thursday anyone pitching their tent must be finished and off site by 8pm and again on Sunday by 12pm.

Please make sure you have eaten on Friday evening as we will only be providing a cake and hot drink that evening.

FAMILY CAMP ROCKET CHALLENGE  rocket challenge

Following a great session that was enjoyed by all the Cubs (and leaders) at Cub Camp this year, we have added the Rocket Challenge to the activities that will be held at Family Camp.

The Challenge

To build a rocket using a 2 litre fizzy drink bottle as the main body. The owner using compressed air and water will fire these into orbit and the distance travelled will be measured.

The Rules

Everyone attending Family Camp can enter (even adults). You must bring you own 2 litre plastic bottle to camp (please use the standard Coke / Fanta type bottles) – you can add bits to it if required to help it fly and they can be painted or decorated if you wish.

The bottle will be launched upside down (lid at the bottom) using a launch pad and pump supplied on the day. (Each rocket will get at least one launch – more if possible).

Small prize given to the best-looking rocket and the rocket that flies the furthest distance.

JUMBLE SALE - Saturday 16th October at the Town Hall

Donations needed and can be given to Julie Wilkins or collected by the Scouts on Wednesday 13th October. We will also need cakes for a cake stall and prizes for a draw.
