Directions

We thought it would be useful to list directions for places we go to regularly.

Taw Bottom Camp Site, South Tawton

Take main road towards Whiddon Down.

At the first set of crossroads turn right (Langdown cross, houses and farm, telephone box).

Carry straight along this road, through a small crossroads. After about 1 ½ miles you will come to a T-junction. Turn left and over the dual carriageway (A30).

Travel for approximately 200 metres and turn in a sharp right onto a track road. Go down this road for approx ½ - ¾ mile. Turn left into woodlands – you are just about there. Park in the car park.

If you’re trying to find it on an OS map, it’s the bit of woodland with the river running at the bottom of it, nearest to Blackhall Farm.

Abbeyford Woods, Okehampton

Drive into Okehampton and turn down past the new Hospital.

At the bottom of this road turn right, go past Heinz and shortly after you leave the town you will see a left hand turn signposted ‘Hook ¼ mile’.

Turn up this road and keep going up the hill, round the bend and then for about another ½ mile or so until you see the entrance to Abbeyford Woods on the right hand side – there is a board at the entrance.

Turn in here and park in the car park.

Shilley Pool

From North Tawton head towards Whiddon Down on the A3124.

At the T-junction turn right towards Sticklepath.

Go past the turning to Mortenhampstead. Continue along this road until just before Sticklepath where there is a left hand turning just after a sharp bend, signposted Throwleigh and Gidleigh. You will be able to see the car showroom at the start of Sticklepath as you come round the bend.

Take this left turn and continue for some way until you reach a fork in the road which has a post box and telephone box on the right hand side of the right fork. Go past these boxes (along the road signposted Throwleigh 1¼ and Gidleigh 3) and continue again some way until you cross over a cattle grid. A few yards past the cattle grid you will see an area on your right that is eroded and has clearly been used for parking. Park here or on the left of the road.

Burrow Farm (map reference 703026 on the North Tawton map)

Take the road from the Square through Essington (towards the surgery) and up the hill. Just before the Pig Stud turn right across Staddon Moor.

At the end of the long straight bear right towards Burston and Bow.

Burrow Farm is the second farm on the left after about ½ mile. There is parking immediately past the farm house in front of 2 large barns.
