1st North Tawton Scout Group was formed in 1913 and we have had an active presence in the town ever since and hope to continue doing so for many years to come. Easily recognisable by the distinct blue and white necker worn by all sections, we are often seen around the town completing our challenges or taking part in the St Georges Day Parade and Remembrance Sunday services at the local church.
The group is part of the Mid Devon Scouting District and works closely with eight other Scout Groups within the District to achieve our Scouting Aims and Goals.
to offer our young people a youth shaped programme with the spotlight very much on Growth, Challenge and Adventure. Through the adventure of Scouting, young people get to take risks in a safe environment, and have their first taste of responsibility. We give young people experiences they’ll never forget. The sort of adventure Scouting offers is the chance to experience something different and the opportunity to challenge themself. When a Beaver Scout wakes up the morning after a sleepover, or a Cub Scout has just got over her fear of heights by completing her first abseil - that’s adventure. We encourage our young people to feel the buzz of the challenge and then reflect on what that means. Did they have fun? Do they feel more confident? Would they do it again?
to help our young people fulfil their potential as a team, learning in a hands on way by doing and thinking for themselves and most importantly, having fun.
